Even the greatest cultural philistines know of Frida Kahlo. Between the film, Diego Rivera, and the braids—I mean, unless you are hiding under a rock….

The current show at the New York Botanical Garden is a whole new take on Frida. It can’t help but feature a dozen incredible works by the Mexican artist. However, the main focus of the show is Frida Kahlo’s love of gardens. The entire space is a re-created version of Kahlo’s studio and gardens in the Casa Azul in Mexico City. In addition to the art, architecture, and landscape elements, the Botanical Garden is hosting a series of Mexican-inspired events. Pop over to experience Mexican food, music, and family activities. In the meantime, I grabbed the opportunity to get a little artistic myself. Along with my team of brilliant creative professionals, I reimagined a modern-day Frida Kahlo and brought her to the New York Botanical Garden.
