I couldn’t be more fulfilled in my present life. However, I must confess, I get painfully camp-sick at this time of year. Seriously, talk about youth being wasted on the young. We knew we were having a great time, but definitely had no clue what a luxury those carefree eight weeks were. Now, I watch my little camper get on that plane and, while I am thrilled for him, a part of me wants to actually be him. Hence, I have caught myself searching for camp-like experiences that exist in “real life.” Trust me, I don’t need to relive a shower house or doing the job of “first sweep” in order to guarantee the number-one spot in the shower lineup (a necessary evil for anyone who had a shot of showing up to the mess hall for dinner with a proper Eighties hairdo). However, I do love revisiting everything remotely related to camp. This week, my need for nostalgia took me to Brian Belott’s Dr. Kid President Jr. show, artist Mimi Jung’s weaving studio, shopping for fashionable campy clothes, Adam Silverman’s ceramics studio, and a couple of artist residencies and art-education centers. Happy summer camping!
