While many have been skiing, beaching, and doing whatever a collectista does for spring break, I have been obsessing over ceramics and glass. Don’t misunderstand: I do, in fact, have a life—which is exactly the case in point. Art has entered our daily lives as never before. Sometimes it’s functional, while at others it remains simply a wonderful visual that inspires our day. Regardless, one no longer has to visit a museum, gallery, or art fair to appreciate art. Cultural philistines, you can’t run and you can’t hide. Amazing art is in our homes, our parks, our restaurants, and more. And to land this plane, it is often in the form of ceramics and glass lately. This week alone, I took in glowing Chihuly glass in Miami and Chelsea; was salivating over Brian Rochefort’s latest vessels, David Wiseman’s ceramics, and Paula Hayes’s globes in Madison Square Park; and dreamed about Betty Woodman’s domestic ceramics in Los Angeles. I mean, I couldn’t avoid ceramics and glass all day if I tried. Embrace and enjoy ceramics and glass week.
