Despite the snow, rain, and everything between the two U.S. coasts, this was my kind of week. We can debate the value of the arguably excessive number of international art fairs until we are International Klein Blue in the face—which, come to think of it, wouldn’t be so terrible. However, the fact remains that when there are more than five simultaneous contemporary and modern shows in one city, the art world gathers. Hence, there was lots of buzz in New York as I bopped around the ADAA, Armory, Art on Paper, Volta, and Independent shows. Of course, I also couldn’t miss hanging with Björk at her MoMA opening. I thought that swan was as ridiculous as the next person. That said, the girl has been onto something for years, with her unique sense of style and artistic point of view—a true collectista if ever there was one. Before you head to the shows, have fun prepping accordingly with my quickie education on Middle Eastern and Israeli art, collecting works on paper, Björk, and a roundup of the best in New York show.
