There was so much to celebrate this week, I didn’t know where to begin. As I boarded my flight for New York Fashion Week, I started second-guessing leaving the 80-degree sunshine for single digits. Nonetheless, it proved to be a worthwhile venture. As usual, I traded in sleep (in the city that never does) for fabulous fall fashion, parties, and amazing behind-the-scenes art experiences that I will share with you another day. I even enjoyed some old school New York Chinese food in honor of the Chinese New Year. However, I have to say the highlight of my week was meeting my style heroine—no pun intended—Betty Halbreich. As we both arrived early for a fashion show at Lincoln Center on a 3-degree evening, I shamelessly shared that I was a huge groupie and that her biography was my favorite read of 2014. After all that she has conquered and accomplished, the woman still has humility and a self-deprecating sense of humor. My kind of gal. I was quite surprised, considering she knows she can get away with saying just about anything to anyone at this point. Love Betty…. Anywho, I am now in the throes of closing out the week with the Oscars. I will not pretend to be all Hollywood, as it’s really not my thing. However, here in Beverly Hills, anyone who is anyone gets in on the act at least a teensy bit. Hence, I must go, as I need to get ready for my close-up. Before you run off to the new new thing (so much going on everywhere), enjoy my New York Fashion Week recap, Mimi Cheng’s dumplings in celebration of the Chinese New Year, celebrate Black History Month, and learn about a few great Chinese artists.
