So, I was dining with a single 40-something collectista last spring. She suggested, “Dottie, you should write a feature about being single in New York.” I gave a polite smile while thinking, “Yah, and maybe I could name it something really cool like Sex and the City.” Anywho, fast-forward to the next week when I was at an LAXART party. “What do you do?” I asked, making small talk with the handsome young gentleman to my right. “I curate families online,” he replied. Excuse me? I have a site that features curated everything! Go figure…and now I am writing a feature about a man named Ivan Fatovic and his site for singles.

Ivan was an agent and producer for several years. He then became a wealth adviser at UBS, but was laid off during the last recession. With time on his hands, Ivan created Modamily in response to the many singles around him who were focusing on their careers well into their 30s. As these friends and family members approached 40, they suddenly felt pressured to find a partner and have babies. Modamily is Tinder meets OkCupid. It is a co-parenting and coupling site for people who are ready to start a family. Ivan initially launched the site for Will & Grace scenarios. Now, the first Modamily baby was born in Toronto in June and another a few months later. Many single women and gay men are meeting to co-parent. However, Modamily has also organically grown into a more traditional dating site for people who are ready to settle down. They are even launching an app next month! The sign-up is free and there is a subscription fee to create a profile, ask questions, upload photos, and do everything but messaging. Modamily also offers premium packages with a personal concierge to curate recommendations, answer questions, and offer professional referrals and educational services. Ivan strives to maintain privacy while offering quality profiles. Generally the process is:

1) Answer profile questions.
2) Answer geography and personal-values questions.
3) Automated matches occur.
4) They will guide how to carry on responsibly.

Happy co-parenting, modern collectistas!

WHAT IS YOUR PROCESS?
When a new client joins our Personal Concierge Service, we first do an introductory phone call or meeting so we can learn all about who they are, what they are looking for, and what they are expecting from us. We then rework their profile, approve their pictures, and coach them on how they should be communicating and meeting with potential candidates. We send them match recommendations and guide them through the whole search process. When the time comes to take the next step, we make referrals to legal and fertility specialists in their area so they can start their modern family in the most responsible way.

WHAT DO YOU COLLECT?
When I moved back to New York City for a few years to start Modamily, I sold virtually everything I own, and it felt great to let go of possessions. All of my music, books, and art are on my hard drive now.

WHAT IS YOUR THEME SONG?
Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Red Hot Chili Peppers…the whole album.

WHO IS THE PERSON WHO INSPIRES YOU MOST?
As an entrepreneur, I look up to Elon Musk.
As a businessman, one of my old bosses, Ari Emanuel.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PHILANTHROPIC CAUSE?
P.S. ARTS
Equality California
