Every once in a while, I meet someone who totally and completely shares my energy and we make an instant connection. Contemporary Artist Konstantin Kakanias is one of those people. Seriously, people laugh when present during our phone conversations because KK and I talk over each other simultaneously much of the time. Somehow, even with his fabulous Greek accent, we manage to understand one another. We simply share the same sensibility and it just makes things easy. Singles chillax — he is already spoken for. Nonetheless, KK is probably the contemporary artist most literally and theoretically close to my heart. In fact, one might say I’d be nothing without him…
Anywho, Konstantin is a well-regarded, international, multi media artist. His work is smart, he has a brilliant eye for chic, and his hilaaaarious (which is exactly the word he would use) sense of humor is apparent in every piece he creates. You are likely to be most familiar with his recent illustrations for the New York Times “T” magazine. However, in addition to the New York Times, his work has graced the pages of publications such as: Vogue, Vanity Fair, Departures and Women’s Wear Daily. KK has also produced many dark and humorous ceramics and paintings in addition to collaborations with a multitude of fashion designers including Diane von Furstenberg, Hermès and Christian Louboutin. Perhaps my favorite KK creation to date is Mrs. Tependris — his alter ego. A mutual friend from this Greek God’s days in London initially introduced me to “T”. “You and Mrs. Tependris will become the best of friends!” exclaimed the British collectista. “She knows everyone in the art world,” shared another. All I know is it was love at first sight. From “Mrs. Tependris: The Contemporary Years” to “Just before the Olympic Games in Athens” to “Mrs. Tependris Fashion Diary: Complicated Coats,” this diva keeps me in stitches. We are soul mates. Yes, I know you are questioning whether I am referring to Konstantin or Tependris. The truth is that I am not sure. Does it matter? There is room for both. Here is the full download with Konstantin:
