Everyone is all aflutter about Art Basel Hong Kong, and rightfully so. With major Western gallery presence expanding by the minute, young Chinese collectors chomping at the bit to become more educated, and Chinese artists evolving in different directions, we must pay attention. Art Basel Hong Kong is a perfect opportunity to explore the Chinese art marketplace from every angle. A fairgoer can observe what collectors are excited about, which “Western” art is selling most rapidly to Chinese collectors, and which Chinese artists are popular among international attendees. Perhaps most important, Hong Kong is a wonderful social scene! One can scoot about anywhere and everywhere without ever getting into a car. Hence, I tapped into a local collector with equally sophisticated palettes and palate. Mànmàn chī!
